The dazzling cover of this book made me stop and stare - then pick it up to see what was inside. I was so thankful for a review copy so I could discover the mysteries this book held! I've enjoyed several of Coleen's books and was excited to have the opportunity to read her newest book. The Lightkeeper's Ball is the third book in A Mercy Falls series; I was worried I'd be lost because I didn't read the first two. As I read I didn't feel like I was lost at all, but it did make me want to read the first two books in this series called, The Lightkeeper's Daughter and The Lightkeeper's Bride.
Eleanor is dead! Drowned! (I was gripped by this books dramatic beginning) Olivia and her mother can't believe their ears. Olivia doesn't believe she drowned- Eleanor hated water how could she have drowned? Something's fishy about all this and Olivia was going to get to the bottom of it but how? She comes up with a plan to go to Mercy Falls using her official title "Lady Davenworth." No one in Mercy Falls has met her so using this identity would allow investigating her sister's death a lot easier.
Olivia - "Lady Davenworth" meets up with Harrison Eleanor's fiancé in order to discover more clues to this mishap. Harrison is in the aviation business telling people that this is the transportation of the future. Harrison's father and others think he's crazy but his investors think he's onto something. It even catches the attention of Olivia. I really enjoyed the aviation aspect to the story; it was fun. I liked reading about a time of innocence, when everything was fresh, new and exciting.
Colleen Coble pens a engaging, suspenseful murder mystery I couldn't put down. Colleen's characters grabbed my heart, attention and made me smile. It also had a believable spiritual thread I liked. I loved all the behind scenes preparation as the reader saw how Lady Davenworth orchestrated a grand Ball event as a fundraiser for a worthy cause. I felt like I was at the Ball when the event finally happened. It was exciting!
Looking for a good summer read, or a monthly book club pick? I highly recommend The Lightkeeper's Ball. It won't disappoint!

I myself am not a huge book reader, my brother is in a location where he as limited access to books, and has request for me to send books to him. As I have not personally read any of the books, its not very fair for me to comment on plot and story line. I do know he has not complained yet about any of the books so they must be good!
This was great. It was a clean romance with intrigue, forgery, theft and murder and attempted murder. It was a story showing the difference between real friends and those who are only good time friends. The heroine is beautiful and wants to be more than a pretty bauble. The hero cares about making a difference and using the gifts God gave him than only seeking money. Unfortunately his father wants as much money as Vanderbilt and wants to be accepted in society and among the nobs or is it snobs. The story points out what is good in life and what is important. Olivia would give all she had to get her sister back.
I read the reviews and thought it would be a good read. And, like some others, I too fell in love with the cover. Once I started reading the book I couldn't put it down -- I had to finish it as soon as I could. The Christian aspect of the book didn't come into play right away -- it happened later on in the book, and I almost felt that it was thrown in and not necessarily a part of the story. All in all, I loved the book. I do recommend it!
The Lightkeeper's Ball is the story of Olivia Stewart. Olivia heads to California from New York City to try to learn the cause of her sister's death. She uses her title of Lady Devenworth so she can move about and ask questions freely. She meets her sister's fiance who she suspects has something to do with her death. Her opinion of him changes as she uncovers details of her sister's death. To give more details would ruin the story.
This book was a fantastic read. I started Sunday afternoon and if it wasn't for having to work the next day I would have finished late Sunday evening. The characters seemed real and the descriptions of the time period made me believe I was there. The story developed at a quick pace and I kept thinking, one more chapter then I'll quit. However, I found myself continuing as I just couldn't wait to find out the reason for Olivia's sister's death and how her relationship with Harrison was progressing.
This is a book I have already recommended to one person and will recommend it to others!
Olivia Stewart has everything a girl wants; money to buy gowns in the latest fashion, friends that invite her to their extravagant balls, galas, social events, and family that needs for nothing. But being part of America's Four Hundred in 1910 and heiress to an empire of old titles and old money mean nothing when that wealth disappears - along with the lifestyle that money brings.
Olivia's sister, Eleanor is engaged to be married to one of the country's newly rich Harrison Bennett. But when Eleanor dies under mysterious circumstances, it is up to Olivia to take her place as Harrison's bride. Under her English title of Lady Devonworth, Olivia travels to Mercy Falls, California to investigate her sister's death. When she arrives, she discovers that Harrison Bennett is not who he seems to be, and that Eleanor did not die by accident. Will she be able to salvage what is left of her family's money by marrying Harrison? Or will her desire for more than never-ending parties and wealth keep her from going where her heart leads?
Olivia finds herself in the situation we all find ourselves in - discontent with our lives. This final installment to the Mercy Falls trilogy was a very satisfying read with just the right amount of mystery, excitement and historical details. I really enjoyed the plot of The Lightkeeper's Ball, and the characters were either at peace or against one another. The ending caught me by surprise, and it was a page turner the entire ride.
