It resonated with me. Probably because I could relate to Hope. I've been through something similar, and I coped in much the same way. Mason was her reason to breath, and he was the perfect person to help her. I loved how strong yet sweet he was. Hope is strong she just didn't know it until he showed her. Fabulous book, can't wait to read the next one.

Sometimes Never edition by Cheryl McIntyre Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Whew! This is the first book that I have read by this author. I am pleasantly surprised that I stumbled upon this book. It was well written without a dull moment. I was hooked from the first paragraph. It kept me turning each page until the very end. Cheryl McIntyre did a great job in approaching a taboo subject. And although at moments I was cringing she did a very realistic view and did it with taste.

Mason is constantly on the move with his mother and little brother. After a tragic accident took his father away from them his mother has problems with staying in one place for too long. Because of this Mason goes through his days not connecting with anyone and only reaches out through sex and anger. He's always fighting for the underdog and is so sweet it just makes you melt.

Finding herself in a foster home after her mother was killed in a car accident, Hope, is just like a M&M. Hard outer shell but soft on the inside. After suffering through a neglectful childhood with her mother she looks down at herself and feels that she will never be good enough. She only allows a select few close but keeps everyone else at arms length. Always in fear that someone will see her how she sees herself and leave her behind. She hides behind her vices.. Playing drums, writing lyrics, uses anger to hide her hurt, and..... Worst vice of all.. (Hidden from everyone but 1 person)... Self harming.

On Masons first day of school he glimpses Hope. Immediately he feels as though he is drawn to her. As he walking towards her he's startled to see this firecracker in a confrontation with a much larger guy and then proceeds to kick his ass. Never feeling this connection before he is determined to meet her. Unfortunately for him because of the fight she is suspended from school. Later that day Mason sees another student being harassed by a couple guys. Mason sticks up for this student, Guy, and they fast become friends. As luck would have it he goes home with Guy only to find out that, Guys family fosters Hope and is also her BFF.

They both feel an immediate attraction toward each other. Hope is leery but Mason is relentless with his charm and sweetness and Hope finds herself falling for him. Given that they both have their issues and Hopes the biggest of them all it was a journey they both needed to begin. And what a journey it is. There was also great co characters and made the story even more complete.

I'd like to say their story was all sweetness but it just couldn't be that way. Was there sweet, melt your heart, I gotta get me a Mason moments??? Oh Yeah! Hopes character is going to (not gonna lie) piss you off. I realized that she had to be that way, thats what made up Hope. Warts and all. She's hung onto all the bad in her life and she struggles everyday. You're also going to like her, sympathize, root for her and pray that she sees the light. You're just gonna want to pick up Mason and put him in your pocket. But also scream at him why? Why? There are some hard truths in this book that may not sit well with others. Why doesn't anyone say anything? Why once the "vice" is out no one shouts from the rooftops for help. It's frustrating BUT it's also reality.. I don't want to do any spoilers so I won't get into it any more but wow..

I do hope there is a follow up book with some of the other characters.. Park, Guy, Chase, Kellen and even Annie I would love to know more of their stories... Hint Hint ;)

Overall great book that I ate up every sentence. I'll definitely be looking for more from this author!!
Recommend recommend!!
Having read other reviews and seeing those who didn't like the dark side to this book, I wasn't sure how I was going to find it given I haven't read anything of this nature before. All I can say is that from my possibly naive perspective, it was very well written. Not only to you get insight into why Hope does what she does, you get the background as to how it all started and how it became her coping mechanism. I love Mason and how he is able to be there for her - something that Park wasn't able or willing to do. Mason isn't without his own vices but he wants the best for Hope and is such a good match for her. Guy is such a loveable character as are the rest of the band. We didn't see much of Annie but I understand there is a book for her so hopefully that overlaps so we get the deeper look at her character. Very well written and definitely worth the read. Look past the darkness and look at the promise of the brighter future that she has with Mason and you'll hopefully love it too.
Okay, so when I got this book, I wasn't expecting much. I read...a lot. Like nonstop. One click for was probably the best thing that ever happened to me, and I've come across so many bad books lately, I was starting to think I had exhausted the supply of good books.
Then I found Sometimes Never.
If I had one word to describe this book, it would be deep. That's it, the book was so gosh darn deep. The characters were flawed, and I'm not talking 'I'm perfect, but sometimes I lie, which makes me a bad person' flawed. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm not gong to go too deep into it but it got kind of dark at times. It was strained, and you could honestly feel Hope's pain. I'm not going to say that you can relate to the characters, because I know I couldn't. Not because Cheryl didn't do an absolutely fantastic job of introducing us into Hope and Mason's world, but because some of the stuff Hope has gone through, not a lot of people can relate to.
Cheryl described the characters beautifully. You can picture Hope and Mason and Guy in your head. You can describe them like you know them personally, because she makes you feel like you do. The plot line, the characters, the premise...I can't even describe how great this book was.
It was dark, it was twisted, it was deep, and I am still amazed. The writing was almost poetic without verging into snooze territory.
I cried.
Multiple times.
And that doesn't happen to me, like ever.
I couldn't compare this to another book, because I haven't read a book quite like this before. Yes, it has the cliche 'girl has issues and doesn't trust boy' plot line, but it is so much more. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat, I really would.
I bought this book for $1.99, and honestly, I would have paid twice that.
Buy it, read it, love it...you're welcome.
