This is an excellent read for any young adult and I would suggest this book to my children has lots of interesting thoughts from the author that just brings you into the characters of the book. I liked the striped cover of this novel. It reminds me of wallpaper in a plain but safe home. Wallpaper is fragile. It can tear. Our lives can become torn too. I didn't feel enthusiastic about the title of the novel until I began to read the book. MarGreat is a cartoon sketched by Timothy.

The main character in Please Don't Remove MarGreat's Glasses! by Josh Baker is Timothy. However, without the other characters in the novel including MarGreat he would have never moved forward. Just like real life other people enter into a person's life and make it not an arc but a circle. Along the way chances are given to lead lost people to a Savior. In Please Don't Remove MarGreat's Glasses! Jude is one person who has made saving people from trouble his life's goal. Josh Baker never evangelizes or preaches. In some way he gets the message across that we can't walk alone without people or a Savior.

The novel is a coming of age story. It's about a young man moving through life with no plan or guidance. When the One who can help him is introduced, Timothy rejects Him. As a matter of fact Timothy remains in the land of rejection for quite a while. Not believing life is a Holy Plan with a Creator who is as real as the grass he walks on everyday will lead him to find murder, gangsters and make him into a hard headed bully too.Timothy has a particular addiction. His addiction is gambling. This addiction will ultimately lead Timothy to prison.

It's good to read that no one is so far down they can't make it back up. Timothy is rejected by his family. Timothy will experience the death of a lady friend. After many dark days Timothy finds hope where he would have least expected to find hope. Always he keeps a gift from his mother. It's a Saint Anthony necklace. I think this is the light in the tunnel, the forever symbol of the novel because Saint Anthony is the Saint of Lost Things. Timothy is definitely lost. For him the world is one big swamp of quicksand. To pull free is to sink deeper.

The other symbol of hope is MarGreat. She keeps Timothy company while in prison. It is impossible to think or write about the novel without thinking of MarGreat. She is a symbol of God's everlasting love and proves God does have a wonderful sense of humor. He can also use any thing even a cartoon sketch to bring us to a place where the Windows of Heaven open and pour out physical and spiritual blessings. The light orange and white striped cover led me into a familiar world where life is as fragile as pretty wallpaper.

In the end there is no place too dark for His presence. Even wallpaper can be stripped and made new. Therefore, life is really an adventure leading to eternal happiness. Thank to Josh Baker for writing a book which kept me going back to read the next chapter and the next chapter until I reached the end. I hated to see the novel end. At least, I know Timothy, Lucas, Jude, are out there waiting for other people to meet them. Also, MarGreat with her glasses will help me laugh as I walk through the dark places. margreatsglasses
I ventured into reading this book through a mutual friend of the author. I knew of his character and integrity, so I picked up a friend’s copy of the book and started reading it. After reading a single page, it became clear that the author has not only command of the English language, but a profound understanding of humanity.

Baker wastes no time in getting the reader engrossed in the story. You’re immediately hooked. The book eventually became so engrossing that I had to temporarily suspend all non-vital life activities so that I could quickly finish it. The story is filled with brilliant twists and turns, including several moments that will tug on your heartstrings.

I personally could relate to the main character, Tim, who is a typical care-free risking-taking young man. Unbreakable, immortal, young men love taking risks because they’ve never experienced the reality of the consequences. But for Tim, those consequences are coming, and become unbearably real.

The journey and maturation of Timothy is seamless and organic. The messages along the way are profound to the point where it causes you to be introspective about your own life -- about how you treat others and how your choice on who to love is an act of will. You have nothing to lose by choosing to treat other people with unconditional love and compassion, even if they don’t repay it in kind.

I’ve recommended the book to both my mom and dad, who are both enjoying the beginning of it. Likewise, I recommend it to people of all age groups. Margreat’s Glasses will not only etch moments into your heart for the rest of your life, but it will also open your eyes to see the world through a new pair of glasses.
